Planning a Wedding in Adelaide and South Australia

If you want to get far from the madding crowd for your marriage vows, you can plan your wedding in South Australia.  It's a place that offers a break from highly populated, industrial areas, but you'll still find everything you need for a memorable event.

Adelaide is the largest city in South Australia, with over a million people, and its extensive gardens provide numerous sites for weddings.  The Himeji Gardens accommodate small parties of under forty, but there are several larger parks.  You can get married there, or you can stop over there after your vows for photos.  In a land known for aridity, you can find many ways that the local people put biodiversity to work for ecologically friendly gardens or even roof gardens.

Adelaide's Rundle Mall entices the bride-to-be to "shop till you drop."  You can look at marvelous gowns concocted to showcase your beauty on your wedding day, lingerie, jewellery, and cosmetics.  There are also superb vendors for bombonieres, flowers, and other wedding supply items.  This unique place offers cultural diversions including everything from a Zimbabwean gospel choir to a Cook Islanders community group presentation.

If you want to avoid the feel of urban, how about Kangaroo Island?  It's actually connected to South Australia below sea level, but historically it's stood up as its own place.  This is a pristine wonderland where you'll find kangaroos, koalas, sea-lions, and other wildlife living large in a world of green forests, sculpted cliffs, superb beaches, and massive sand dunes.  Several of its lighthouses, notably the Cape Willoughby and Cape Borda Lighthouses, are popular tourist attractions, the perfect backdrop for your wedding day.

The people there are easy-going folk like fishermen and treasure-divers, yet you'll find cosmopolitan lodgings that can meet the challenge of planning your day.  There are luxury villas or sumptuous resort hotels.  There are small but well appointed mid-range hotels.  Many of the hotels accommodate fewer guests per site than you'll find elsewhere because the people are dedicated to providing individualized service.  And most of them demonstrate visibly the commitment to environment and ecology that is a common theme amongst South Australians in general.

If you want to get married near a volcano-for explosive lovers!-choose beautiful Mount Gambier, named after the sleeping giant next to it.  There is more lush greenery with its abundant rainfall, and the limestone upon which the area sits soaks up the rain so that plant life grows thick and colorful.  The crater itself actually marks this volcano as a maar type, so called because it was formed when groundwater came into contact with lava.

You can travel south just a short way from Mount Gambier and visit Coonawarra, a region known for its production of fine Cabernet Sauvignon wines.  The towns of Penola and Coonawarra offer fine accommodations for honeymooners as well as a tour of local wineries, including some with spas.

Whyalla takes you back to a larger city once again, and these are simply the best places-besides the internet-to find all the things you need for your wedding:  Bombonieres, jewellery, and tabletop centerpieces and other reception decorations.  Plus, you'll find celebrants, cake makers, wedding DJs, videographers, and photographers who will travel to your destination.

The Whyalla Golf and Bowling Club as well as the North Whyalla Football Club offer fine locations for the day of your dreams.  You'll also find the Ada Ryan Gardens a beautiful backdrop for photographs, as well as Civic and Wilson Parks.  The Whyalla Wetlands are worth visiting, perhaps for a honeymoon activity rather than the wedding.

All in all, South Australia offers many wedding options for lovers...urban, rural, geologic, ecologic, whatever your hearts desire for the time of your lives.
